A Bit About Us:
We live in the country north of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, where we enjoy a wide variety of hobbies and interests including: amateur radio, bicycling, gardening, cooking, cross-country skiing, photography, lapidary, stamp collecting, crafts, crochet, knitting, woodworking, pottery and travel.
We have a variety of beautiful rural properties available for sale in country residential acreage subdivisions with lot sizes averaging 3 acres. Many of these are very suitable for retirement properties for people wishing to retire from active farming but don't want to move into a town or city and also for people who wish to retire away from the rising crime rates in urban locations and enjoy a more leisurely living pace.
We feed a large number of birds in the winter including: black-capped chickadees, boreal chickadees, white-breasted nuthatches, evening grosbeaks, pine grosbeaks, blue jays, downy woodpeckers and Canada jays.
We also enjoy watching several species of wild animals that range through our area - moose, white-tail deer, rabbits, badgers and several others - as well as hawks, owls, geese, ducks, herons and various grouse.

Northlight Photo Gallery
A collection of photographs taken by Buddy and Hallie du Preez are exhibited and offered for sale here. The current exhibit categories are the Canadian Northwest, the West Indies and a Photo Workshop which includes some interesting lens tests. These may change from time to time.

Hallie's Kitchen
The recipes in this collection will be changed from time to time. They will often be original recipes developed by Hallie but there will also be some interesting dishes found in ads, cookbooks and from other sources. There is also a metric conversion table for cooks.
Northern Garden
This section is sort of a gardening diary plus some specific cultural information about a variety of plants that we have been successful (at least to some degree) in growing here in north-central Alberta. There is also a list of Canadian suppliers of plants and seeds and a Canadian plant hardiness zone map.
